RESIDUAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF SHAPED CHARGES INITIATED BY ACTIVE PROTECTION SYSTEMS

Thomas Hartmann, Ernst Rottenkolber

Abstract

An approach for the determination of the residual penetration capability of highly disturbed shaped charge jets at large standoff distances was developed. Thereby, the shaped charge detonation is simulated in a hydrocode and the terminal ballistics are assessed in an analytical code. The algorithm for the export of the jet characteristics from a hydrocode simulation is described and the reconstruction of the jets and fragments in the analytical code is explained in detail. Further, an application example is provided that shows the fundamental necessity of the investigation of the problem at hand and that highlights the effective operation of the presented method.
